The total Wage Price Index (WPI) rose 0.5% in December quarter 2018 from September 2018 and 2.3% over the year, up 2.3% from the same time last year.
Over the last quarter, the highest index rise at an industry level was 0.9% recorded in Financial and insurance services and the lowest was 0.1% in Accommodation and food services.
The ABS showed an annual change with a 1.6% growth in wages for the Information Media and telecommunication services industry and a 2.8% increase for the Electricity, gas, water and waste services and Health care and social assistance industries.
The lowest recorded throughout the year for wage growth was Western Australia with 1.6% whereas Victoria recorded the highest with a 2.7% growth.
The weights used to compile this data were updated in the December quarter 2018 using the 2018 Survey of Employee Earnings and Hours. Weights are updated every two years to reflect any changes in Australia’s economy.
