Older Australians are downsizing their homes and building their super

The Downsizer Measure was introduced 1 July 2018. The measure allows older Australians who are choosing to sell their home and downsize or moving from a home that no longer meets their needs, to contribute up to $300,000 of proceeds from the sale into super.

Since being implemented, 4,246 people have used the measure, with 55% of contributions being made by females and 45% by males.

People from every state and territory have made downsizer contributions. The top three states are NSW at 31%, VIC at 26% and QLD at 24%.

The Downsizer Measure was one of several super measures announced in the 2017–18 Federal Budget.
